Artist's Statement

Margarette Mattos is a Brazilian artist of abstract expressionist art who explores colors and textures through the use of a mixed media, where the artist mixes iron ore with paints and pigments. It took many years of research to develop this technique in which she prints a unique and exclusive effect on her works. To develop her paintings, she often gives up the use of brushes and really likes to work with her hands. That way she says she can feel the textures and have more freedom to create and finish her works. In addition to iron ore, she also uses iron oxide, gold, copper, resins, varnishes and waxes to obtain a harmonious composition with unique textures, colors, shines and opacities that are reflected in her works. Margarette is from Espírito Santo, Brazil, but currently resides in Cambridge, Massachusetts and has already exhibited her work in the United States, Brazil and Europe. The artist has paintings in public and private collections in Brazil and the United States. The artist has already received several awards in the Visual Arts category of the Brazilian International Press Awards. Margarette is part of the select group of artists of the Cambridge Art Association.
